Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management

The BSc in Environmental Management is an integrated, interdisciplinary program that provides the skills, knowledge and tools to identify and assess the qualitative, scientific, and technical components of environmental issues. Students will acquire and apply relevant skills and knowledge in the fields of environmental ecology, atmospheric and ocean sciences, geomorphology, soil sciences, environmental hydrology and remediation. Students will examine global issues through land use planning, global processes, tools for management and decision-making and, will integrate their skills to address environmental issues from a sustainability perspective. Students can acquire their BSc in two years while continuing to work. The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Management (EM) is a 25-month, interdisciplinary program that combines three intensive three-week on campus residencies with online learning at a distance. This blended-delivery model is for those who are unable to attend the 12-month full-time on campus (BSc ES) option.

The Graduate Diploma in Disaster and Emergency Management is a one-year interdisciplinary degree. The program explores the theoretical foundations of disaster and emergency management as a growing field of practice and study. Integral to the design of the program is the understanding that disasters are more than hazards: rather they are a product of the inter-relationship and mutual construction of the environmental, social, economic, and political spheres. This approach supports the notion that disaster and emergency management processes and practices can and should contribute to risk reduction, community resilience and sustainable communities. The program design incorporates both individual and team-based learning strategies, and offers students a team-based applied skills course during the second residency. Students who wish to continue their studies towards completion of the Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management may do so through the laddering process. Students may apply to transfer to the MA stream, during the diploma program or after.

The MEM program is a graduate degree of interdisciplinary study in either the Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MSc) designed to enhance strategic decision making in the environmental field. The program emphasizes teamwork and focuses on technical, policy, and system and sustainability issues to prepare students to become environmental professionals who are effective leaders and managers. The program is offered through a combination of two, three-week and one, one-week on campus residencies and two terms of distance online courses. The program can be completed in approximately two years.

CCEE has been created as a result of a partnership between Royal Roads University and ECO Canada (the Environmental Careers Organization of Canada). The MSc in Environmental Practice program structure fosters the perspective needed to advance environmental leadership and management. The program structure is directly related to the structure of the Canadian environmental profession and the national occupational standards used for professional certification. Students will gain foundational experience and in-depth knowledge focused on two of the three sectors of environmental employment: Environmental Protection Conservation and Management of Natural Resources Applicants should also review the parallel M.A. in Environmental Practice which is based upon the same program structure but with a social science base which provides the in-depth knowledge in the two employment sectors: Conservation and Management of Natural Resources Environmental Sustainability
